* Fresh off signing a master agreement Wednesday with the City of Toronto, Metrolinx President and CEO Bruce McCuaig said Thursday that the addition of two new subway lines - a downtown relief line and an extension of the Yonge line into Richmond Hill - would be the next priority for the regional transit agency.

"With our plan in place, it's now time for the big conversation about the best ways to pay for this $34 billion investment," McCuaig said.

* Ontario ombudsman Andre Marin said Thursday that a jump in complaints from parents of developmentally disabled adult children from 35 in 2010 to 64 in 2012 is part of the reason why the services available for parents and their disabled children will be the focus of his next investigation.

“We have heard heart-wrenching stories from aging or ill parents whose adult sons and daughters are a danger to themselves and others and need constant care that can’t be provided at home – but they have nowhere to turn,” Marin said. He hopes to release the report in the next six months.

* Ontario Power Generation was named in a report Wednesday on "alleged billing issues in the construction industry" in Quebec by French language media.

On Thursday, the company issued a statement saying "there was no suggestion of wrongdoing on OPG’s part and the information in the news report is still being substantiated."

The company is, however, launching an internal investigation into the issue with the assistance of an independent forensic auditor.

* All-day, two-way GO train service for Brampton and Mississauga is high on the wish list being put together Peel regional council. “Our citizens still cannot take the GO train to Toronto if they have any kind of a risk of not being able to get home,” Brampton Councillor Gael Miles told the Guardian

* The city of Brockville is about to bump the fees for residential building permits by 10 per cent to bring them closer to what other municipalities charge. City clerk city Sandi Seale said that even the proposed increases will leave the fees at the low end of the scale.

* Police chief Glenn De Caire has presented a 2013 budget to the Hamilton Police Services Board calling for a 5.25 per cent spending increase to $143 million and the hiring of 20 new officers. Members of the board are studying the proposal and considering their options.
