* Premier Dalton McGuinty is due in Windsor on Wednesday where he is expected to announce that the $1.4-billion Windsor-Essex Parkway will be renamed in honour of long-serving former Liberal MP Herb Gray. The parkway will eventually provide a direct link between Hwy. 401 in Windsor I-75 in Detroit via the new international bridge between the two cities.

* Best read story on the London Telegraph website Wednesday was one that appeared under the headline: “New Bank of England Governor Mark Carney's wife: an eco-warrior who says banks are rotten.”

“The British wife (Diana) of the new Bank of England Governor is a strident environmental activist who urges people to spend less money on possessions, and once declared: ‘Having more stuff does not make us happy.’”

The website also carried a couple of stories outlining Carney’s banking credentials.

* Two more public high school boards have struck deals with their teachers.

The Kawartha Pine Ridge and Thunder Bay boards have both signed onto tentative deals in recent days, but they’re pending ratification by members and approval from Education Minister Laurel Broten.

Media reports suggest the Lambton Kent board is very close to its own deal, which would bring the provincial tally to 10.

Elementary school teachers, however, remain steadfast in their opposition to Bill 115. Not a single public school board has reached a deal with elementary teachers.

* More than 300 residents of Elizabethtown-Kitley township in southern Ontario have signed a petition calling on Mayor Jim Pickard and members of council to be more “open, accessible and accountable.” Township staff have been asked to draft a code of conduct policy for councillors.

* Specialist physicians in Alberta are saying that fee cuts proposed by the provincial government there could hurt patient care and lead to an exodus of doctors. (Perhaps to Ontario?)

* Mississauga's director of finance Patti Elliott-Spencer has told council’s budget committee that city ratepayers could face a tax increase of 7.8 per cent next year. Included in the proposed tax hike is a 1.6 per cent levy to combat an outbreak of emerald ash borers that have attacked trees across the municipality.

* Michael Bryant, a former attorney general, predicts Toronto Mayor Rob Ford will be successful in having a court decision ejecting him from office stayed, allowing him to carry on as mayor pending the outcome of an appeal. “My bet? The judgment will be stayed, Toronto keeps its mayor, however politically hobbled, and the appeals will be expedited,” says Bryant, writing in a column for iPolitics.

“If the judgement holds up to further appellate scrutiny, Ford may end up sufficiently martyred by this judicial process that he gets re-elected regardless, come 2014.”

* Ontario Speaker and Liberal MPP Dave Levac confirmed he will run again in the next provincial election.

“I reached the decision partly through discussion with friends and family, both inside and outside of politics,” Levac said. “I’m ready, I have the energy and I have the desire.”
