* The government hopes to staunch the flow of generic OxyContin into Ontario through regulatory changes announced on Friday.

Federal health minister Leona Aglukkaq said Monday she would not block the generic drug after the patent for OxyContin expires on Nov. 25, despite protests from her provincial counterparts, pharmacists, doctors, police and social services.

The provincial draft regulations would prevent access to generic OxyContin unless it’s tamper-resistant like OxyNeo – which replaced the traditional long-acting formula earlier this year, according to a government release.

Only tamper-resistant formulas would be allowed under the Ontario Drug Benefit plans and generic oxycodone products would not be considered an “interchangeable” generic formula unless they meet tamper resistant criteria.

The draft regulations have been posted for public consultation until Dec. 24, 2012. They would be retroactively applied to Nov. 23 if approved by Cabinet.

* Changes in how the Sunshine list is reported were introduced Friday by Finance Minister Dwight Duncan.

“The regulation has amended the definition of ‘salary’ in the Act to include specific forms of remuneration, namely per diems and retainers, received by appointees,” he said.

“The names, job titles and remuneration of these appointees will now be disclosed in the annual Sunshine List,” Duncan said in a written statement.

Tory MPP Rod Jackson said his party “agrees with the change” but would “love to know why it took them nine years to figure it out.”

The new regulation changes the Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act of 1996 and will come into effect on January 13, 2013.

* The Tories released an attack ad - of sorts - on Friday, saying that the Liberal leadership contest has been less about renewal and more about recycling old cabinet ministers.

"Every Liberal leadership candidate is simply a clone of Dalton McGuinty. Nothing has changed," said Tory MPP Rod Jackson.

He said that all candidates, including former Education Minister Gerard Kennedy who left Cabinet in 2006, bear some responsibility for failed programs such as e-Health and ORNGE.

* The resignation of Harinder Takhar, who stepped down on Thursday to run for the Ontario Liberal leadership, leaves Premier Dalton McGuinty with a slimmed-down, 17-member Cabinet. It also means that with Finance Minister Dwight Duncan taking on Takhar’s Government Services portfolio, nine of McGuinty's 16 colleagues are covering at least two ministries.
