* Dr. Samir Sinha, the geriatric specialist charged with drafting a provincial senior care strategy, will release his final report and recommendations on Tuesday morning.

Health Minister Deb Matthews tapped Sinha last May to lead the review. Since then he’s travelled the province, visiting all 14 LHINs and chatting with seniors and care providers alike, and seeking ways to improve care while preparing the province for the coming bulge of aging baby boomers.

His 200-page report is described as “comprehensive” and “broad” by government officials.

In August, Sinha told QP Briefing his report could prove a global first in its focus on senior care and will offer a path to make better use of existing resources like seniors’ centres.

* Ontario's Ministry of Natural Resources is asking the public to weigh in on how best to strengthen existing regulations to keep the invasive species Asian carp out of the Great Lakes.

One suggestion from the government to start the conversation is to change the existing legislation which prohibits "live possession" to "prohibit unless dead and eviscerated," specifying not only that the fish be dead but that its internal organs be removed before any are brought into the province.

The government says this move will bring Ontario into compliance with international trade rules prohibiting the sale and transport of Asian carp.

The public has until Feb. 21 to post comments on the Environmental Registry.

* Check your flight dates. Workers at the Toronto Island Airport who fuel Porter aircraft will be in a legal strike position as of 12:01 am on Jan. 10. The 22 employees who work for Porter Fixed Base Operations and management have been unable to negotiate a contract since the workers unionized in August.

"The union has been very reasonable in its requests," said Canadian Office and Professional Employees union staff representative Mary Stalteri. "We sincerely hope to be able to prevent a strike and unnecessary inconvenience to the travelling public."

* London's libraries may be the battleground as the city's 2013 budget negotiations get under way.

A zero per cent budgetary increase proposed by the city would shutter Sunday service, among other service reductions, the library board warned in a letter to politicians.
