Liberal Amanda Simard and PC Stéphane Sarrazin are in a statistical tie in Glengarry-Prescott-Russell, a Mainstreet riding poll suggests.

Among decided and leaning voters, Simard is supported by 41 per cent and Sarrazin by 37 per cent, within the margin of error of the poll.

Elected as a PC candidate in June of 2018, Simard left the PC caucus in November of that year to sit as an independent. She made the move as a protest against cuts to French-language services.

In January of 2020, she announced she would sit as a Liberal.

On the eastern tip of Eastern Ontario, bordering on Quebec, the riding is heavily Francophone - most residents said they normally spoke French at home in the 2021 census.

Federally and provincially, the riding has most often been Liberal, but with strong second-place performance from PCs or Conservatives.

This Mainstreet Research poll was conducted on May 17. A sample of 497 people was interviewed by automated telephone interviews. The poll is accurate to within ±4.4 percentage points, 19 times out of 20. The poll is weighted for age, sex, and region to be representative of the entire adult population of Canada.
