Before Question Period began, MPPs were united in their grief and marked the devastating Humboldt Broncos bus crash with a moment of silence.
PC MPP Michael Harris attended Question Period, but didn't ask any questions. He left abruptly right after Question Period, just before his colleagues released a statement alleging he had sexted a former intern and was being removed from caucus and barred from running in the next election. <a href="http://www.qpbriefing.com/2018/04/09/breaking-tory-mpp-turfed-alleged-text-messages-sexual-nature-intern/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">More of that here</a>.
The leadoff hitter:
PC parliamentary leader Vic Fedeli took at swing at the government over the whopping $6.2-million salary of Hydro One CEO Mayo Schmidt, compared to the $489,000 CEO salary at BC Hydro and $543,000 at Hydro-Quebec.  The news of Schmidt's $1.7-million raise broke while MPPs were at home in their constituencies last week.
Fedeli then moved on to another constit week story: Liberal MPP Bob Delaney stuck his foot in it when he said his government had tripled the debt and was proud of it. Fedeli said Delaney had called for an increase in the GST in the past, and asked Premier Kathleen Wynne if she too is calling for a sales tax increase — the premier chose not to dignify that with answer, and told Fedeli to read the government's budget.
In health:
The NDP kicked things off with a question about dental care, to no one's surprise, as the third party has been hammering away at the subject for weeks. Leader Andrea Horwath asked if the premier knows any dentist who will look after a child’s teeth for $50 and, if she does, will she give out the dentist's telephone number to the parents of Ontario. That, of course, is about how the government's proposed dental plan would only reimburse families $50 per child per year for dental care.
In education:
PC MPP Lorne Coe asked about the $31-million payout to Ontario teachers. Quoting Harvey Bischof, president of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation, he called the settlement “a dirty deal that clearly wasn’t done dirt cheap.” Education Minister Indira Naidoo-Harris replied it was made in order to prevent further legal challenges against the government.
In friendly questions: 
Liberal MPP Christina Martins asked Culture Minister Daiene Vernile about libraries, giving her a chance to remind folks of Doug Ford's comments about closing libraries back when he was a city councillor. The exchange also gave rise to the best heckle of the day.
Heckle of the day:
"What election platform?" - PC MPP Todd Smith. In her answer to the friendly question on libraries, Vernile said the PCs' platform did not mention the word "culture" once — presumably referring to the former People's Guarantee platform, which the party tossed out along with Patrick Brown.
Speaking of platforms:
PC MPP Randy Hillier took Liberal MPP Ted McMeekin to task for erroneously tweeting that the PCs are breaking a law that states political parties must present costed election platforms. In fact, there is no such law. "Not only is the accusation egregious and false, the law they are accusing the leader of the Progressive Conservative party of breaking does not even exist. This is quite literally false news. It is reprehensible, yet unsurprising, that a former minister of this government and the premier’s office would have such a distorted view of the laws in Ontario." Finance Minister Charles Sousa responded by daring the PCs to release a costed platform.
