Globe and Mail education reporter Kate Hammer is leaving the paper to work for Education Minister Liz Sandals. Hammer broke the news herself on Twitter.

Hammer came to the Globe after a stint interning at The New York Times. Her last day is Nov. 14.

Renaud Adams has been named president and CEO of Richmont Mines, effective Nov. 15. Richmont operates the Island Gold Mine near Dubreuilville in northeastern Ontario. “His experience in the gold sector will be of tremendous benefit to Richmont, and will enhance the development of our high-grade gold resource below our Island Gold Mine in Ontario, which is currently a 1.1 million ounce inferred resource," said Greg Chamandy, Richmont's executive chariman of the board. Richmont also has two mines in Quebec and is planning more development of Island Gold.

The government said it intends to appoint Bruce Campbell as CEO of the new Independent Electricity System Operator, which is being merged with the Ontario Power Authority. Campbell has run the IESO, which plans the power grid, since May 2013.
