A pay equity advocacy group is giving the provincial Tories an F for the party's policies to address pay disparities between men and women.

The Ontario Equal Pay Coalition gave the failing grade in Tuesday's report card that scores the four parties' platforms to close the 31.5 per cent pay difference between men and women in the labour force.

The Liberals and NDP both got Bs and the Green Party garnered a C.

Pay equity issues have not been a part of a campaign focused on jobs and the economy and whose key platform focus has been on the PC plan to cut 100,000 jobs in the broader public sector to help balance the books.

The coalition said the Progressive Conservatives did not address the gender pay gap in responding to questions from the group, while the Liberals and NDP both promised to work on a plan to close the gap.

The two parties have proposed policies to raise wages for public sector employees such as personal support workers and child care workers.

The Tories want to create one million new jobs in the private sector over eight years but streamline public sector bureaucracies, mainly in health care and education. The equal pay lobby group says voters should consider the party positions when they cast ballots Thursday.

"We need our legislators back at work at Queen's Park working on this issue so that next April, 2015's Equal Pay Day will see progress on closing the gap," said coalition share Mary Cornish.

"At the current rate, without a new plan to combat pay inequity, Ontario women will have to wait about 52 years before they have the same average annual earnings as men."
