Ontario's newly minted health-sector watchdog is holding her first town hall meeting in Toronto.
Patient ombudsman Christine Elliott, who took up the mantle in July, will be at the Jane Mallett Theatre at the St. Lawrence Centre alongside TVO's Steve Paikin, who is moderating the Wednesday evening event.
"This is an opportunity for Ontario patients to connect with the Patient Ombudsman and share their stories, experiences, and concerns," notes a news release from Patients Canada.
The Ministry of Health appointed Elliott as Ontario's first-ever patient ombudsman in December. She has been given a mandate to hear patient complaints about the health-care system and has jurisdiction over provincial hospitals, long-term care homes and Community Care Access Centres. The patient ombudsman also has the power to conduct her own investigations at any one health-care organization and make recommendations to the Health Minister.
