New Democrat France Gelinas has again introduced a private member's bill asking for the province's ombudsman to investigate hospitals and long-term care homes.
"It is time for Ontario to give the ombudsman oversight of the health-care system," Gelinas said at a Queen's Park news conference Monday, adding all other provinces have taken such a step.
She introduced a similar bill last fall, but it died when the legislature was prorogued. Overall, it's the fourth time Gelinas has moved such a bill.
The expanded mandate is something ombudsman Andre Marin has also asked for repeatedly, but which the government has so far resisted. Enacting her bill would be  a "game changer" for health care in the province, Gelinas said.
