As a member of the management team, this role will act as an advocate of Central 1 Credit Union’s government relations programs, provincially and federally. With an end goal to promote statutory and regulatory proposals, provincially and federally, the successful incumbent will endorse the development of the credit union systems of Ontario specifically, more generally, Canada.
You’ll be primarily accountable for:
<ul>
<li>Monitoring and analysing province and national public policy, especially provincial, federal and international legislative trends respecting the regulation of the financial services industry</li>
<li>Participating in the development and negotiation of amendments to provincial and federal financial institutions’ statutes and regulations</li>
<li>Effectively communicating revisions to and interpretations of statutes and relations which impact on the operations of credit unions to internal and external audiences</li>
<li>Monitoring and analysing provincial and national public policy, especially provincial, federal and international legislative trends respecting the regulation of the financial services industry</li>
<li>Executing a strategy to achieve Central’s government relations goals, ensuring the long-term strategic positioning of credit unions with the Ontario Ministry of Finance, the Financial Services Commission of Ontario (“FSCO) and the Deposit Insurance Corporation of Ontario (“DICO”)</li>
<li>Developing briefs, positions papers and/or responses to governmental and regulatory authorities, political party caucuses, member credit unions, management the Board of Directors.</li>
<li>Establishing positive relationships with MPPs, MPs, Senators, and MLAs to promote adoption of legislative proposals and other initiatives that promote the growth, development and stability of member credit unions.</li>
<li>Developing and delivering seminars relating to legislative and governmental processes and developments, including Central 1’s approach to ‘grass roots’ lobbying.</li>
<li>Representing Central 1 to affiliated organizations and participate as a member on various committees</li>
<li>Advocating on behalf of individual credit unions, in resolving issues with regulatory authorities.</li>
</ul>
Occasional travel is required and the successful candidate will be expected to work with clients, colleagues and institutions in different time zones.
