Ford Canada plans to hire even more workers than the 1,000 it has promised for its retooled Oakville assembly plant.
The Oakville-based auto manufacturer has scheduled a news conference for Thursday to mark initial Canadian production of the 2015 Ford Edge, the new vehicle the plant will build for the global market.
The company said it also plans to announce additional hiring for the assembly plant beyond the jobs it already promised last year, when it announced the new vehicle program for the auto factory.
"Oakville assembly will also announce increased hiring in addition to the 1,000 employees announced in 2014," Ford said in a statement Tuesday.
The company did not say how many additional jobs it plans to add to the 62-year-old plant, which employs about 3,200 people and is a major employer in the western GTA.
