The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) is the statutory body responsible for regulating Ontario’s capital markets in accordance with the mandate established in the provincial Securities Act and the Commodity Futures Act. The mandate of the OSC is to provide protection to investors from unfair, improper or fraudulent practices, to foster fair, efficient and competitive capital markets and confidence in the capital markets, to foster capital formation, and to contribute to the stability of the financial system and the reduction of systemic risk. This mandate is performed through policy, operational, adjudication and enforcement work. The OSC also contributes to national and global securities regulation development.
The Communications and Public Affairs Branch plays an integral role in maintaining the OSC’s reputation as an effective and responsive securities regulator. The Branch provides strategic communications advice to ensure the timely and effective communication of OSC priorities, policies and actions across all corporate channels. These include stakeholder engagement, executive remarks, corporate reporting materials, internal communications, staff internet, media relations, issues management, OSC websites, and enterprise social media.
The Communications Coordinator is a versatile and experienced communications professional, who provides specialized communications expertise and support to the Communications and Public Affairs Branch related to writing, social media, event execution and stakeholder engagement. This includes contributions to communications projects of broad importance to the organization, as well as providing communications advice and support on OSC corporate events, media, enterprise social media and related communications initiatives.
The Communications Coordinator also works directly with the Public Affairs team to execute media requirements, including, but not limited to, tracking daily inquiries, distributing all OSC, Capital Markets Tribunal and Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) news releases, daily media monitoring and sharing content across the OSC’s corporate social media channels.  
Key Duties &amp; Responsibilities:
Content writing &amp; distribution:
<ul>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Support broad communications projects, including writing engaging and compelling communications materials.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Develop and share content on OSC’s corporate social media channels and make content recommendations.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Work with the internal communications team to develop content on intranet and newsletter (e.g. Polls, Branch pages, newsletter articles), interview subject matter experts and write articles that inform and inspire staff.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Design and develop e-mail updates to stakeholders using multiple email databases in MailChimp. Choose and adapt template (in editor, and using basic HTML), upload information, and distribute on behalf of the organization to various stakeholder lists (e.g. media) via e-mail, MailChimp and newswires (CNW).</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Generate and update targeted stakeholder lists for the purpose of specific content updates, event invitations, etc.</li>
</ul>
Media monitoring:
<ul>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Perform daily review and distribution of salient OSC media coverage across all platforms (broadcast, print, online) to support issues management by the OSC and help ensure executives and subject matter experts receive timely coverage related to the OSC and its priorities.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Decipher, capture and track every media interaction by the OSC with news outlets for archive purposes and to ensure timeliness and completeness.</li>
</ul>
Operational support:
<ul>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Assist with vendor selection for social media analytics software. Provide ongoing analysis and reporting on key social media metrics.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Provide event management support (e.g. solicit third-party vendor quotations, plan logistics, assist with A/V, manage registration and stakeholder outreach) for OSC conferences, roundtables and other public events.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Assist with procurement materials and processes, acting as a Branch resource on OSC procurement procedures and preparing any necessary paperwork, invoices, invoice summaries, etc.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Support the Director and senior Branch team members with annual business planning and reporting by securing cost quotations for related communications activities (photography, digital imagery, event-related professional services, annual report production) as inputs to budget planning process. Coordinate quarterly reporting schedule on key initiatives.</li>
</ul>
Reporting:
<ul>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Generate custom reports in Google Analytics on a quarterly basis.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Coordinate Branch-wide reporting and planning such as review of monthly and quarterly variance reports, budget, contract and expense reports, and procurement reporting.</li>

Skills Requirements:
The ideal candidate will have the following:

<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Demonstrated ability and proven results in social media engagement as well as strong writing skills. </li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Experience in supporting the coordination and execution of strategic communication plans.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Ability to generate innovative ideas and solutions to problems, considering best alternative to achieve desired results.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">A high degree of professionalism.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Advanced proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, graphics, specialized/proprietary applications, and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel). </li>
</ul>
Qualifications:
<ul>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Post-secondary degree or diploma in communications, journalism or a related field.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in public relations and communications in a corporate or agency environment.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Knowledge of financial concepts and the securities industry, an asset.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Familiarity with basic graphic design tools e.g. Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator or InDesign.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Strong writing skills with a commitment to high-quality, technically accurate and concise output.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Knowledge of Canadian Press Style with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Current experience using and managing corporate social media channels.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Ability to manage and prioritize against competitive deadlines.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">An understanding of the current issues facing the OSC and the Canadian regulatory landscape would be an asset, as would media relations experience.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Solid professionalism and discretion in handling confidential issues.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Self-motivation and ability to work independently within a team environment and, at times, with limited direction.</li>
