Position Overview
The City of Burlington has a unique career opportunity for a candidate who:
<ul>
<li>Is interested in being a key player in the development and implementation of municipal strategy,</li>
<li>Understands municipal communications, stakeholder and government relations, and</li>
<li>Welcomes the chance to work collaboratively with elected officials and senior municipal leadership.</li>
</ul>
This is a contract position up to November 30, 2018.
Responsibilities
The role of Chief of Staff, Mayor’s Office, requires leadership experience in:
Communications, strategy and issues management:
<ul>
<li>Strategize, and oversee the implementation of communications for the Mayor’s Office.</li>
<li>Coordinate timely and appropriate responses to all audiences on behalf of the Mayor, prepare and distribute status updates and briefing materials in collaboration with senior City staff and/or community stakeholders.</li>
<li>Support the development of strategies to respond to current and emerging issues.</li>
</ul>
Government relations:
<ul>
<li>Provide government advocacy, at all levels, on behalf of the Mayor.</li>
<li>Work closely with municipal stakeholders on issues related to the City.</li>
<li>Review federal, provincial and other municipal government legislation and regulations which may impact the City.</li>
</ul>
Office operations:
<ul>
<li>Oversight of the Mayor’s schedule, coordinating meeting agendas.</li>
<li>Supervise the staff in the office, managing and organizing priorities, evaluating performance and providing training opportunities.</li>
<li>Plan and manage the Mayor’s Office budget.</li>
<li>Oversee the development of major presentations, reports and speeches, working with corporate communications as appropriate.</li>
