Job Description
Brown &amp; Cohen Communications &amp; Public Affairs Inc., a dynamic public relations firm headquartered in Toronto, is seeking an account manager.
Since 1991, Brown &amp; Cohen has worked with hundreds of private, public and not-for-profit organizations across Canada spanning education, environment, finance, government, healthcare, hospitality, retail and technology. Brown &amp; Cohen is the exclusive Ontario firm of Public Relations Organization International, a global network of firms with more than US$350+ million in billings.
The successful candidate will be able to provide strategic direction on accounts, mentor team members, and work with senior management to help grow the firm’s business.
The ideal candidate will be entrepreneurial, a self-starter and a consummate professional with a strong background in strategic communications, media relations, issues management and community relations.
He/She will have outstanding written and verbal communications and presentation skills, including a willingness to develop and secure new business.
The ability to inspire confidence in clients and colleagues while working on complex files for leading brands, not-for-profits, industry associations and local entrepreneurs is also essential.
Desired Skills and Experience
Duties will include but are not limited to:

<li>Creating and executing fully integrated communications strategies</li>
<li>Understanding and defining story angles</li>
<li>Pitching stories to media and obtaining coverage</li>
<li>Writing communication pieces such as media advisories and releases, client reports, newsletters and social media content</li>
<li>Managing client relations in a way that instils confidence and demonstrates momentum</li>
<li>Research for reports, client initiatives and media relations strategies</li>
<li>Event planning, preparation and execution</li>
<li>Writing communication pieces such as media advisories and releases, client reports, newsletters and social media content</li>
</ul>
Basic Requirements:
<ul>
<li>A minimum of four years of media, agency, consultancy or corporate public/media relations experience</li>
<li>Must have University degree and preferably a postgraduate certificate in public relations.</li>
<li>Demonstrated success in issues management, stakeholder and community relations, media relations, social media and crisis communications</li>
<li>Excellent writing and research skills</li>
<li>Keeping abreast of current news stories and applying them to possible client opportunities</li>
<li>Familiarity with and experience applying social media tools for professional purposes</li>
<li>A “roll up your sleeves” approach to get work done</li>
<li>Initiative and the ability to work with minimal supervision</li>
<li>A positive, team-first approach with an emphasis on both hard work and results</li>
<li>Ability to manage multiple client accounts at once</li>
<li>Ability to work on tight deadlines</li>
<li>Event planning/management experience a plus</li>
</ul>
