Headlines

The new Canadian Free Trade Agreement* will be unveiled today in Toronto. Can you now hit a Costco in Quebec to legally bring a bunch of Budweiser 60-packs back to Ontario? No, not yet. But it will  begin addressing regulations for coffee creamer containers, our other long, national nightmare. Progress, people!

How much of a subsidy the UP Express requires won't be revealed until the summer, the Toronto Sun reports. It's been more than a year since the one-way fare for the airport train was cut from $27.50 to $12. More people started riding the shuttle, but the trade-off was the drop in per-ride revenue.

Our stories from yesterday:

  • Queen’s Park reviewing use of electronic devices – and props, possibly – in the legislature
  • Finance minister seeks housing market summit before provincial budget
  • Liberals snub NDP attempt to rush rent controls, say they’ll do it themselves – and more
  • Province will release SIU reports, table new police oversight legislation

A case set to go before the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal next month could have a big impact on the level of autism services that school boards must provide for their students, the Star reports.

A PC MPP's private member's bill would require most buildings to post signs that indicate if they were constructed with lightweight trusses. It's a big deal for firefighters, the Star reports, who need to make quick decisions about whether or not to enter a burning building.

*Well, it's getting there.

In the opinion pages:

  • Chris Selley takes on Justice Tulloch's recommendations for police oversight reform in Ontario
  • The Toronto Star sees the Tulloch report as a road map it should start following ASAP
  • David Reevely points out the need for better police services boards
