The following bills are scheduled to come before the legislature this week:

Bill 172, the Climate Change Mitigation and Low-carbon Economy Act

  • Third reading debate starts Tuesday morning, continues on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning
  • Sets targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and contains a framework for the government’s cap-and-trade program

Bill 135, the Energy Statute Law Amendment Act

  • Third reading debate took place on Monday afternoon, continues Thursday afternoon
  • Amends the Green Energy Act, Electricity Act, and the Ontario Energy Board Act
  • Requires the energy minister to issue a long-term energy plan periodically and allows the government to issue orders to the Independent Electricity System Operator and the Ontario Energy Board to implement the LTEP

Bill 156, the Alternative Financial Services Statute Law Amendment Act

  • Second reading debate continues on Wednesday
  • Amends the Collection and Debt Settlement Services Act, the Consumer Protection Act and the Payday Loans Act
  • Limits the fee that can be levied for the cashing of a government cheque
